Razer 13" stealth MX150 2019- the misunderstood product | Razer Insider (2024)

I own one of these and love it, but your battery numbers seem severely inflated. After undervolting, disabling the GPU entirely, disabling turboboost, turning on all power-saving settings, and only using it for light tasks, I get 5-7 hours per charge. Those numbers are confirmed by dozens of other users and by reviews (many of which are worse).

That "20 hours" number you're getting when you're fully charged and just unplugged the power adapter is not an accurate measure of battery life. If you're actually getting 10+ hours, I would love to know your secret.

That being said, I would agree that the MX150 does well enough as long as a game isn't too intense, and the 25W capability of the CPU is one of the strong points of this model.

...however Razer's CPU throttling settings often keep the CPU below that 25W limit when the GPU is engaged unless you do some very serious BIOS tweaking.

I think that the new model with the 25W TDP on the CPU and the 1650 Ti is going to be incredible if they can actually deliver those 25W while the GPU is engaged, and keep heat down.

You can't artificially inflate a battery life calculation. The windows automatically takes the current battery wh reading and divide that by the current consumption mwh and presents you a calculated value. It's not a value that I can ever input . You can try to full charge your blade 13 and pull out the cable to see if it reports 20 hrs at the very first instance.

The moment you launch a few applications, the CPU processor starts kicking in and the battery life gets reduced downwards. The average battery life that I'm getting is 10 to 12 hr as mentioned and that's casual web browsing and occqsional Microsoft word or office work.

I'm sure running Photoshop will yet reduce it further and everyone's usage is different. It's very difficult to prove exactly how long is your battery life unless you run a rundown video loop test with all other parameters being similar.

My other blade 17 pro 2017 always reports 5.5 to 5.7 battery life hours after full charge. It has never exceeded 6 hours no matter how I tweak it. The machine hardware and circuitry draws too much power unfortunately.

I'm not accusing you of fudging the numbers at all, I'm just saying that the prediction Windows generates when your battery is at 100% is not indicative of actual battery life.

Here's a test i did today. Full charge and let the laptop run idle with LCD screen on. Wait until battery get drain to 99% and see the remaining battery calculation left. MX150 was always active in device drivers. WIFI and bluetooth was off. Laptop was just sitting idiling.

There's quite a far bit of criticism from some reviewers that the stealth 13 MX150 is a pricey machine that is unable to game on.

Well as I see it, you have to consider the source - and what I mean by that is the source of the laptop. We have a high end premium laptop maker that specializes in top end gaming laptops. They're entire claim to fame is that of rolling out gaming laptops that surpass the competition. Then they roll out a MX150 based laptop - it will be fairly or unfairly judged as a gaming machine. Given the price points and how well Razer does produce great gaming laptops I do scratch my head on the use of the MX150.

There's quite a far bit of criticism from some reviewers that the stealth 13 MX150 is a pricey machine that is unable to game on. It was clearly a sad and unjustified comparison as the razer 13 with mx150 wasn't being positioned exactly as a powerhouse gaming machine in the 1st place.

It’s mobile version of gtx1030, entry level nvidia gpu which’s still by far better compared to Intel. Second Blade mx150 use 4gb vram instead of 2gb version on other ultrabook, and back then there was no gtx1650 nor 1650ti maxq, plus a good cooling system for ultrabook class they can charge whatever they want, since there was no other competitors but maybe not now. I had few times with mx150 4K model, it can run light and indies titles pretty well for long times and keep the temperature keep unlike my MacBook that easily hits thermal throttle areas. By lowering resolution to 720p I can even play AC Oddysey with switch 30FPS, well playable, pretty sure on other ultrabook with mx150 (had mi Air) can hit 90degrees cpu temperature easily on that game, meanwhile on stealth mostly on 70ish.

It’s first dgpu on stealth since stealth before was made for razer core companion if user want to have good gaming experience but now it’s not dependent, user can still have playable FPS without Razer Core like on the go etc, believe me it was pain in the xxx playing games on stealth 2016 without core, including some indie titles.

The most puzzling model that was ever sold was the razer stealth 13 2019 - without any GPU and running intel integrated graphics.

I'm with you all the way. The 1650 would have heard much sooner than the MX150. Unfortunately, the device is only suitable for older games or at least not AA titles. After my first research before buying it, I hoped for more. CS GO is only playable at medium settings with 30 FPS and that's really no fun. But otherwise a super device.

You can always low the resolution like to 900 or 720p and getting higher FPS if you don’t want use low setting, can’t you. I was fine playing CSgo on stealth 2016 hd620 on low 720p, because it’s 13inch and the game isn’t really need high quality resolution imo.

That's right. Then I chose Overwatch. It works better than CS. And in the next few months I will consider whether to get another 15" blade, or a Core X or a gaming PC. We'll see.

today i tried using an external power bank - Cygnett USB C 20000 MAH (74wh), the battery bank has a USB C output that can output 45W.

The razer stealth 13 2019 with MX150 GPU comes shipped with a slim 65w power adaptor but surprisingly , the Cygnett 45w usb c battery bank is able to charge the stealth 13 with MX150 effectively.

i don't think the 45w power bank will charge the stealth 13 with GTX 1650 model. That laptop needs and is sold with a 100w power adaptor.

Razer powerbank that was supposed to power 45 watt older blade stealth can charge just fine 1650maxq late 2019 and even a MacBook Pro 15. If your Powerbank can supply stealth mx150 I’m pretty sure it can also power 1650maxq model.

It can charge but not full, even 2 years ago it can only add 35% max stealth 2017 from around 8 to 11 hours, now since it’s wearing already, it can keep battery on same rate around 30 minutes paperwork, and normal charging when I correctly remember also around 30 minutes till the powerbank off maybe adding extra 15%. It’s only small 12000mAh, but fits on my jeans pocket unlike other laptops powerbank.

The best I had gotten so far after all the tweaks and mods.

Be sure to uncheck BD PROCHOT in throttlestop or else the CPU will drop to 400mhz when gaming on battery. 400mhz is not playable for any game.

BD PROCHOT is a thermal limit. I'm not sure why it would respond any differently on battery power than while plugged in. Do you have any more information on this?

I am aware of what it is. I made a post with screen shots playing games on battery and the CPU will drop to 400mhz stuttering and unplayable:

This was where I found the solution:

I've tested this several times checking this option and the difference is day and night.
