How do I go back to desktop from online QB?
Yes, you can switch to QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT), @frank120. I'll guide you how.
When you transition from QuickBooks Online (QBO) to QBDT, you may observe differences in the appearance of your books. Like the following:
- Features
- Lists
- Product and Services
- Preferences
- Reports
- Transactions
To give you more insight on how your books move from QB Online to QB Desktop, Here's an article:
Learn how features and data move from QuickBooks Online to QuickBooks Desktop. To switch, it's essential to have a recent version of QBDT installed on your system and
cancel your QuickBooks Online subscription. To guide you further with the migration process, you can refer to the steps below.
First, download your QBDT version.
- If you haven't already, download and install it on your computer.
- Once done, open the QBDT.
- Go to File and select Close Company. Leave QuickBooks open while you complete the rest of the steps.
Next, sign in to QBO and download the migration tool.
- Sign in to the QBO account you want to convert with a browser we support. Use your Intuit Account credentials.
- Go to the Export Overview and click on Get Started.
- Select the Download tool and keep this page open on your browser.
- Install it and click on Next.
- Accept the terms in the license agreement and select Next.
- Then, hit Install and Finish.
After that, you can proceed with the Step 2, 3 and 4 in this article to complete the process:
Move data from QuickBooks Online to QuickBooks Desktop.
Furthermore, you may read through this material for future reference in case you need help in having a backup file to have another copy of your accounting data using QBDT:
Back up your QuickBooks Desktop company file.
Please let me know in the thread if you have further questions about transferring to QBDT from QBO. I'm here to assist you.

Thank you for replying. I currently have 2019 but plan to purchase 2024 by the end of the year and make the switch to desktop for 2025.

How do I go back to desktop from online QB?
You can only purchase QB Desktop 2024 Pro Plus/Premier Plus this month. After September, you can only purchase QB Desktop 2024/2025 Enterprise. If you prefer to use your old QB Desktop 2019, you need to purchase a 3rd party service to convert your data from QB Online.

How do I go back to desktop from online QB?
If I purchase 2024 now can I just keep it on the side until I cancel QB Online after the New Year or does it matter if I start using Desktop and cancel Online now? I guess what I'm asking is, I don't want to lose my data that was entered in 2024 and not be able to do my year end accounting. Will the 2024 desktop version have all my online data?
