Walsh College to Confer Honorary Doctor of Laws Degree to Emagine’s Paul Glantz
Walsh College in Troy will confer an Honorary Doctor of Laws degree to its keynote speaker and Walsh alumnus Paul Glantz, co-founder and chairman of Emagine Entertainment Inc. in Troy, at the college’s 119th Commencement Ceremony at 10:30 a.m. on June 22 at Jimmy John’s Stadium in Utica.
“Walsh College is proud to confer this degree of distinction upon our friend, supporter and alum, Mr. Paul Glantz,” says Suzy Siegle, president and CEO of Walsh College. “Paul is an outstanding example of our alumni living our mission in the world. He embodies the very best of business excellence and ethics, and we are excited to have him speak to our graduates and receive this well-deserved honorary doctorate.”
The college will award graduate and bachelor’s degrees to a class of 276; 141 will receive bachelor’s degrees and 135 will receive graduate degrees.
Glantz’s Emagine Entertainment operates 27 entertainment venues in Michigan, Indiana, Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Illinois.
Glantz holds a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration with high distinction from Wayne State University and a Master of Science degree in taxation from Walsh College. He has been recognized by both his alma maters, Walsh College and Wayne State, with the Distinguished Alumnus Award, and by Wayne State’s Irvin D. Reid Honors College with the first ever “Pillar Award.”
“I am deeply honored to be receiving an Honorary Doctor of Laws from my beloved alma mater, Walsh College,” Glantz says. “To be among those who have previously received such recognition is truly humbling.”
Glantz will become one of only a handful distinguished leaders to receive an Honorary Doctor of Laws degree from Walsh since the college’s founder, Mervyn B. Walsh, was honored as the first recipient in 1975. Recent honorees recipients include Annette Marcath (2023), Cynthia Pasky (2022), David Provost (2021), Veronika Scott (2021), Betty Chu (2021), and Elizabeth Meter (2020).

Voltpost Secures $100K Grant to Deploy Lamppost Chargers in Detroit and Across Michigan
Voltpost, the New York-based lamppost electric vehicle charging company, has been awarded $100,000 from the Michigan Mobility Funding Platform (MMFP), administered by the State of Michigan’s Office of Future Mobility and Electrification (OFME).
The funding from the MMFP will be used to deploy 10 Voltpost chargers on lampposts curbside and in parking lots across Michigan, including the Detroit Metropolitan area.
Voltpost’s lamppost charging platform reduces the cost, timing, and footprint of EV chargers by retrofitting existing infrastructure and removing construction and trenching barriers typically tied to EV charging installation. With Voltpost, municipalities will be able to generate new revenue streams, improve city planning with new infrastructure data, and accelerate decarbonization by spurring EV adoption. Convenient public EV charging access on city streets and in parking lots will reduce range anxiety for EV drivers and advance Michigan’s goal to build a reliable, convenient and accessible statewide network of 100,000 EV chargers by 2030.
This is the second grant the company has received from the MMFP. Making headway in Michigan since 2022, Voltpost was awarded a $65,000 grant from the MMFP for the deployment of the company’s retrofit lamppost charging platform at the Detroit Smart Parking Lab (DSPL) to simulate a curbside charging environment.
Voltpost now has its demo unit up in Newlab at Michigan Central. Throughout this project, Voltpost conducted product demonstrations with Michigan drivers, OEMs, local government agencies and officials to gather useful feedback. Voltpost also participated in the Plug and Play Detroit Mobility cohort and won the Plug and Play Pitch Night event, selected down from 150 startups at the Detroit Auto Show in September 2023.
Livonia Senior Wellness Center Breaks Ground Today
Stakeholders are breaking ground today for the new Senior Wellness Center at the Jack E. Kirksey Recreation Center in Livonia.
Construction of the new 30,000-square-foot, $26.9 million facility is expected to begin in early July.
“This project has been a team effort,” says Livonia Mayor Maureen Miller Brosnan. “The support from Wayne County, state representatives and other elected officials at all levels of
government have helped ensure our seniors have this wonderful facility available to them for years to come.”
The project was made possible by $20.75 million in county, state, and federal grants, with the remainder from the city’s funds from the American Rescue Plan and building improvement funds. It will not require an increase in taxes or a dedicated millage.
The new Senior Wellness Center will be separate from but adjacent to the existing Rec Center, giving older adults easy access to both facilities. The new Wellness Center also will feature a more efficient floorplan allowing programs and activities the flexibility to grow, plus a larger dining room, a café, cozy seating and lounge. Flex space also will serve fitness classes, educational seminars, assistance services, and more.
Construction of the Livonia Senior Wellness Center and upcoming renovations at The Rec are expected to be completed by December 2025. The current Civic Park Senior Center will remain open and operating programs until the new facility is ready for use.

The legacy of Otis Williams, the founding member of The Temptations, is memorialized forever, asOtis C. WilliamsStreetwas officially revealed Saturday during an event in Detroit hosted by Motown Museum and the Black United Fund of Michigan.
Otis C. WilliamsStreet is located at the corner of Wisconsin and Santa Clara, the intersection of Williams’ former home at 17376 Wisconsin St. on Detroit’s northwest side.
The street naming event was attended by Williams and members of his family, several Motown alumni, all current members of The Temptations, and dignitaries including Black United Fund of Michigan President and CEO Ken Donaldson, and others.
Performers from Motown Museum’s Hitsville Next performed during the ceremony honoring Otis’s legacy by singing “Ain’t Too Proud to Beg” by The Temptations.
Detroit Future City Hosting Juneteenth Event About Homeownership

Detroit/Wayne County Port Authority to Host Detroit River Youth Career Expo June 22
The Detroit/Wayne County Port Authority (DWCPA) and the University of Michigan’s Detroit River Story Lab have partnered to inspire Detroit area young people (15-25 years) to consider college, vocational, and career pathways in maritime, environmental science, water resource management, health and education, and communications and culture, among others at the Detroit River Youth Career Expo.
The event will take place at the Port Authority’s riverfront dock facility located at 130 E. Atwater June 22 from 9:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Participants will meet representatives from 21 firms and educational institutions and will be able to tour the GLMA’s training vessel, The State of Michigan, and see what it’s like to stand on the bridge of a commercial ship. Lunch will be provided to participants.

The Macomb Organization for Retiree Enrichment (MORE), a lifelong learning initiative from Macomb Community College, will offer a summer session July 19-Aug. 5, with five classes and five local excursions.
